About Us

Susan Cantelo and John Doherty took over Westlington Brook Winery in June 2005. Their tree change has taken them from a city life style to a life on the land as farmers, vignerons and wine makers. The change has been challenging, satisfying and very rewarding. Working with family, friends and neighbours has given them a new sense of camaraderie and achievement, which has been a real joy for Susan and John. From very little knowledge they have learnt a great deal about vineyards and boutique wine making. Susan said, “Our aim has been to work hard at improving the quality of the wine produced at the winery.” Both Sue and John have completed a Boutique Winemakers Course in Margaret River and make all the wines themselves on the property.

John’s brother, Alan, has been around from the very beginning of the project. With his knowledge of farm and vineyard operations, and his cheerful help, Alan has been invaluable. Dunsborough winemaker Siobhan Lynch has also been a mainstay as a wine making consultant and mentor. Together Sue, John and friends are continually working
to improve the quality of their wines. Ray Jordan’s Guide to Wine 2006/7 regarded them as “Pretty impressive wines here…”

Much of Susan and John's 'spare' time at Westlington Brook is spent caring for the farm livestock of cattle, sheep, chooks, geese and guinea fowl and a beautiful garden of 400 David Austin and heritage roses, fruit trees, daffodils, tulips and camellias. The property is represented in the Festival of Country Gardens in early November, when the roses are at their best. Visitors are welcome to stroll through the gardens and to visit the cellar door.
